ANCIENT RITES
Any promotor of a decent Black Metal gig in our country is hoping at least once for this band as top of the bill. Their shows are sparse and certainly in our region. Front man Gunther Theys is a stubborn fighter and kept the band alive to many trials and misfortunes. And you have to remind yourselves that this combo was born at the tail end of the 80’s. They were equally drawn to the dark side of metal as some of their peers in the far north and are about the only Belgian Band that can carry this kind of moniker with pride. And yet they were never mere followers, but carved their own path in the genre. Not that common as well, to be frankly honest. A little praise is justified here.
KLUDDE
The band hits their home town for the first time in five(!) years. It will not go unnoticed. They will play their new album ‘De Horla’ in its entirety, including a full blown visual animation on the background. The album that pushed the very borders of the Black Metal genre with a story about lust, hate and revenge in a very dark atmosphere was praised by friend and foe. Not just the album, but in equal measure the graphic novel by visual artist Wesley Dewanckel, that was custom made to accompany the album. A truly unique blend of music, storytelling and images will be presented here. This full combination will make its debut on the 20th of April. You’ll meet the full crew of Rock’N Load on the first row.
SERPENTS OATH
Above all, if this dark kind of metal has to feel right, one has to imagine the equivalent of a real slap in the face. These guys certainly fit the description here. They have been active for a few years now, and slowly but surely a growing mass of fans are picking up the band. Without too much eye for detail or theatre, they provide the necessary killer riffs and great songs. It might take a bit longer to be noticed, but the respect of their fellow musicians and fans will be bigger. And their latest work is also their best; have a listen to their latest album ‘Revelation’. The future will be bright.
DUDSEKOP
Ancient Rites uses their native language on a regular base, Kludde does more than that en these fellows sings in a dialect from the region of Ypres. This as a tribute to the rich and sometimes gruesome history of their home town. It won’t surprise you, to find out that guys from bands like Liar and Congress are on stage here. But don’t be mistaken, they fit in very well with the rest of the bands on this evening. We are talking about some impressive, but very dark music here, which can appeal to fans of Amen Ra as well as a Norwegian Black Metal enthusiast.
